When To Use The Simple Past

PAST SIMPLE FORM

Add ‘ed’ to the bare infinitive for regular verbs – I worked / he played
Use auxiliary verb did in questions – Did you buy anything at the shop?

Use the Past Simple Tense when:

  • an action is finished in the past I went to Rome in 1991.
  • a past habit / routine – I swam every day when I was a child.
