PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE – form and use

USE PRESENT SIMPLE FOR;

  • RoutinesI work 5 days a week.  I go to the gym on Monday and Thursday during my lunch break.
  • HabitsI have a cup of coffee for breakfast.  I smoke.  I bite my nails
  • FactsWater boils at 100 degrees Celsius.  The earth goes around the sun.
  • Scheduled Future Events (i.e. timetables) –  The plane leaves at midnight.  The film starts at 6p.m.

FORM

Base of Verb (infinitive without to)
Add ‘s’ to the base of the verb in 3rd person singular (he, she, it)
Add do / does before the subject to make a question
